Hyderabadi theatre group performs at Delhi International Arts Festival
Hyderabad-based theatre group, Shudraka was invited to perform at the 10th Delhi International Arts Festival (DIAF-2016). The city troupe performed Kissa Andher Nagri Ka at the DIAF, attended by 2000 plus artistes from over 30 countries. The festival is spread over 35 venues in Delhi NCR over a duration of two weeks, between Nov 12 and Nov 25.
An adaptation of Bharatendu Harishchandra's famous story Andher Nagri Choupat Raja, the play Kissa Andher Nagri Ka is about a disciple who despite many warnings from his teacher ventures into a dark town ruled by a very foolish ruler. In this town, he discovers that the inhabitants are equally foolish. An incident follows a bizarre blame game which almost costs the disciple his life. Using irony and humour, the play depicting the absurdities of India's socio-political systems, corruption, exploitation and historical manipulation, got a rousing reception from the crowd.
